The truth about me ...
I'm as passionate about my life as I am my stories.
It all began ...
I can't remember a time when I didn't want to be a writer, my passion for stories having been born out of my love for reading. And I read nearly everyone. Still do. Give me a compelling idea with interesting people and I'm hooked. I can still remember all the excitement and joy I felt when I first discovered books. I get that same tingling feeling today every time I walk into the library or a bookstore because I know I'm about to be taken on a journey. It's the same feeling I get every time I sit down at the computer to work on a story of my own. Because the people in my stories always take me to an unexpected place.
My writing background ...
Even though I always wanted to be a novelist, I let myself be convinced it was out of reach. So I worked nearly every other writing job, from Sports Reporter at my college newspaper to Opera newsletter editor, trying to throw dirt in the void. I even landed a full-time paid writing job as a News and Feature Writer for a Fortune 100 company. And, today my writing career spans 13 years and most media. I've penned hundreds of feature articles in both U.S. and international markets and hold a bachelor of arts in journalism. None of those achievements, great as some of them felt, ever made me feel complete in my work. With the support of my husband, I left my profession behind and took the scary leap to follow my passion. Now, I'm fully devoted to my craft and haven't looked back since.
Other interesting facts ...
In addition to speaking conversational Spanish, I'm learning Mandarin Chinese and French. Can't say that I'm particularly good with either but I love trying. I was born in Chicago, but my family quickly moved back to Ohio so I don't have any memories of my home town. Twenty-five years ago I moved to Texas where I've long-since dropped anchor. I live with my husband, two sons, and daughter. And although I spend much of my time on a basketball court with my family, I can also be found snorkeling with them during exotic travels in summer or up on the top of a mountain skiing in winter.
